AFT-Maryland staff representative, Michael Spiller, conducted a steward training held on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 for AFT Healthcare-Maryland.

The training took place on Springfield Hospital grounds and was attended by five new stewards. President Debra Perry spent the afternoon portion of the training talking with the new group.

The five new stewards are: Pam Neuberth, Christina Cappelletti, James O'Reilly, Yvonne Dowell, and Shirley Robinson-Keene.

The Supreme Court Harris v Quinn ruling does not apply to all unions. The
Supreme Court decision judged the plaintiffs in the case to be personal
assistants that are quite different from "full-fledged public employees"
and therefore Abood v Detroit Board of Education which enables unions to
collect fair share fees from non-members for expenses germane to

AFT-Maryland joins the National Association of Letter Carriers in STAMP OUT HUNGER, a national food drive.

AFT-Maryland Affiliate Locals are distributing bags in which you can place your non-perishable food donations. Place the bags near your mailbox on Saturday, May 10th, and your letter carrier will deliver them to a local food pantry.

April 7th -13th is National Public Health Week.

AFT Healthcare-MD is sending out a 'Thank You' to all our public health employees in Bargaining Unit E for the great work you do for the citizens of Maryland.
